The Rev. J. W. (iummere, in an Earnest Sermon,
Appealed to County Citizens to Bring True Picture
Of Local Situation to Attention of President
Taking the story of Naboth's
Vineymd as his text, the Reverel)d
John W. Gummers, Rector of Zion
Episcopal Church, in an earnest
sermon delivered from the Zion pul-
pit on Sunday morning, urged the
people of Jeffeson county not to be
discouraged and to continue their
efforts to bring to the at~enion of
President Franklin D. RooseveP, a
tiue picture'of the ?Atuation.
The Rev. Gummers stressed the
fact that there could be no doubt
as to the utmost patriotism of a
a county that had given so unstint-
ing)y of it's sons and it's resource:~
i, all of our country's wars.
Many of these people, Mr. Gain-
more said had lived on and tilled
this land for many generations, and
to tear up their roots and drive
them from their homes would be a
hardship for which no mm)ey could
eompen,sate.
As a message of hope and encour-
agement to his pet,pie he stated l
that on SaturdaY he had received a
message from W~shington stating
that the tragedy facing the farm-
ors of Jefferson county had been
brought to the attention of WhiLe
~toum~ officials and that a message
had gone to |be War Department
about the matter with the utmost
assurance that before the question
is decided it will come before the
Presiden~ of the United States.
Mr. Gummer( said further that
he fet't confident that the welfare
(,f the people of Jefferson county
was of much personal concern to the
Presiden'c amt that Mr. Roosevelt
would not allow the matter to be
decided against us unless this land
is most urgently needed in the de-
fense of our country.
Design repeats itself In this assemblage of modern American crystal pieces for the holiday table. The
polished square base of the glasses and the crystal "bubble-ball" candle holders are seen again In ths
two comports which hold large red and green grapes. A row of tiny yellow pompons running down the
renter or ) ~e tame ~dds a note of g~i~ty, Th~ gt:~sses are the modern "Knickerbocker" pattern.
